I met a Living Buddha at a Tibetan Monastery

July 30, 2008

I know you may not have been to Zhongdian in China, so let me paint a picture….. you fly into a fairly modern airport surrounded by snow capped mountains, that were shrouded in cloud, with a huge ‘Welcome to Shangri-la’ sign - for this is the area the Chinese claim is Shangri La.Â
We were met by our guide, […]

A Past that should not be forgotten……

July 27, 2008

On my journey through Cambodia I knew today would be very emotional, thought provoking and a day of sadness.  The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, known as Security Prison 21 (S-21), was a school that was taken over and converted into a detention centre from 1975 to 1978 by the Pol Pot security forces. Phnom Penh Food Market

My first glimpse of Angkor Wat was one of those WOW moments that you will remember for a long time.  The rain had eased off as we started on the approach to Angkor Wat, but only moments after our group photo was taken, our guide urged us to hurry towards the main temple as he […]

A Floating Village

July 7, 2008

Leaving our Siem Reap hotel, this morning we head for the Chong Khneas Floating Village on Tonle Sap Lake with our English speaking guide Kim Tay.   Just 15 minutes drive from town we boarded a boat and travelled down a brown water canal passing floating schools, a church, fisherman and other boats.

Some parents drive small boats […]

My first Cambodian temple

July 2, 2008

Ta Prohm Temple was my very first temple experience in Cambodia.  It was impressive sticking out of the jungle and being strangled by large trees growing within the temple.  Ta Prohm was used as set in the movie Tomb Raider.  I took so many photos to try and capture the rock carvings and green colour […]
